Fencing Team at Junior Olympic Qualifiers

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Crown Fencing Academy was formed this fall as a USFA club under Dunwoody Fencing Club, with Coach Kathy Vail as our sponsor. Our coach is Dave Eichler, who also coaches two high school fencing teams in Cobb County. Our thirteen fencers range from 4th grade to 11th grade. Some have been fencing for a year, but most have been involved in the sport since September 2009. We meet on Mondays at 6:30-8:00 at The King’s Academy. Our season runs from September to March.

Our middle and high school fencers competed in the Junior Olympic Qualifier Tournament on January 9 despite the icy conditions in the Atlanta area. The competition took place at Atlanta Fencing Club in East Point. Every fencer scored touches on their opponents in the seeding rounds, and Justin Hoenstine, won in the first bout of the elimination rounds. As first year fencers, we were pleased to be more than a target for the more experienced fencers.

Our fencers compete in one tournament a month as a team. Each individual can participate in other tournaments as their schedules permit.

For more information on our fencing program, please contact Jamey Wood at jamey@charactercorner.com.
