CSAA Championship Games 2009
Tuesday, November 10th, 2009
Middle School CHAMPS! The Crown Knights defeated Harvester Christian Academy 26-8 to take home the championship trophy on Saturday November 7. Havester Hawks came out with strong defensive stops and held the Knights running attack and a blocked punt. Both teams scored early in the first half but the defensive play stopped the running games on both sides of the ball and the halftime score was Havester Hawks 8 Crown 6.
In the second half the Knights were able to get their offense going with the passing attack. Shane Young connected with Hamilton Armour for a 25 yard completion followed by a 35 yard pass to Sam Buhler for a TD. This put the Knights in front 12-8. After some strong defense by Jonathan Emmons the Hawks were forced to punt. Crown’s Shane Young connected again with Hamilton Armour on a 23 yard pass which setup another Sam Buhler 15 yard TD run putting the Knights up 20-8. Again strong defensive line play by Shelton Thomas and Jonathan Emmons forced the Hawks to pass which resulted in a interception and 40 yard TD return by Brandt Kireta. Final score was Crown Knights 26, Havester Hawks 8. Crown takes home the first ever CSAA Middle School Championship trophy.
Varsity Knights Runners-Up - NCC held their ground in the closing minutes of the CSAA Varsity Football Championship game on Saturday, November 7, to defeat the Crown Knights 9-7. It was a great defensive game where both teams stepped up their game and had key stops to hold the opposing offenses at bay most of the night. NCC and Crown went back and forth in the first half with each team unable to move the ball into the end zone. NCC kicked a field goal to take the lead and go up at half time 3-0.
In the second half Crown came back and scored on a 35 yard run by Fritz Stepat to take the lead in the 3rd quarter. The Crusaders came back with a defensive interception and then on a QB TD run to score and take the lead back 9-7. Crown was driving late in the game but ran out of time and timeouts to sustain their drive, ending in a second place Championship finish for the team.
Way to Go Knights - great end to another great season!
Victory - In Jesus!
Monday, October 5th, 2009
The Knights experienced both a loss and a victory during Homecoming weekend. JV lost their game to Loganville Christian 9-0 and Varsity won their game with Faith Covenant 41-0. Faith Covenant drove all the way from Alabama with one coach and few fans, and we were blessed to see Knights cheerleaders, drum and flag corps, and several fans make their way across the field during the second half to provide cheer and support for the hardworking team. We are so blessed by the wonderful Christian community associated with Crown Athletics!
It’s been an interesting season for the Knights. Delays, cancellations, bad weather, field changes…so many things that could cause discouragement. But we are anything but discouraged as we recount the glorious work of Christ in our midst, and this past weekend is a shining example. During post-game prayer circles led by Team Chaplain Eric Helms, seven students and one adult heard the good news of God’s grace and made a profession of faith! This is not the first instance of students and others praying to receive Christ through this ministry. To date 31 individuals including players, cheerleaders, and coaches have responded to the Gospel this season. The spirit and outreach of the Crown football program is tremendous, and God is using it to make Himself known in a mighty way.
As one of our football coaches said recently, we just “count it all joy” when we are faced by various trials because we know God is working in a much bigger and more significant way at Crown Athletics than we could have ever hoped or imagined. To Him be ALL the glory!
